Prairie View Industries has earned national recognition as the leading manufacturer of portable access ramps. They take great pride in being the original designer and manufacturer of the multi-fold wheelchair ramp. Prairie View built their first ramps beginning in 1989 in Prairie View, Kansas. The company was relocated to Fairbury, Nebraska in 1994. They have been an LE customer since June 2001.
Application
The single fold and multifold access ramps are most often used for handicapped individuals in wheelchairs and scooters.
Challenge
The hinge pins are aluminum tubing that was rubbing metal on metal resulting in galling of the aluminum.
LE Solution
The local LE lubrication consultant recommended Almasol® Dry Film Lubricant (9200), which is a unique air cure dry film aerosol lubricant. It offers 2-5 times longer wear life than competitive dry film lubricants at -100°F (-73°C) to 650°F (343°C) operating temperatures. Almasol 9200 was designed primarily for use where permanent lubrication with exceptional long wear and low frictional properties is desired, and oil and grease cannot be used.
Results
The problem with the galling on the aluminum has been eliminated with the use of Almasol 9200. It has been applied to thousands of ramps to date without one complaint.
The paint rack and heater unit are set up in the spray room that is used exclusively for the application of 9200. They warm the parts when they are cold to speed drying time and also to allow a second coat to be applied. You can see from the photos that they achieve a perfectly uniform finish on the final product. The work area has it’s own exhaust fan and is very impressive.
