The Paco car’s hydraulic oil would overheat on hot days, but using LE oil resolved these issues despite its higher cost, leading to a discussion on the true value of quality oil over cheaper alternatives.
Larry Boyle, a lubrication consultant, recommended Multilec® Industrial Oil (6804) for its multifunctional, heavy-duty rust and oxidation inhibition, anti-wear properties, excellent lubricity, and water separation ability for various industrial applications.
Switching to Multilec 6804 cooled the hydraulic oil by 30°F, reducing pump and oil leakage issues, resulting in smoother operation of the Paco traveling car.
Now that you know the facts, which oil is the cheaper one to use?
- Andy OlczakR.I. Lampus Company, Inc. is the largest manufacturer of cement block in the Pittsburgh area. They have been in business for 80 years, and an LE customer since 1995.
R.I. Lampus Company uses Paco traveling cars to transport the newly formed block (which are formed in the Besser block machine) to the drying kiln. The cars also move cured block from the kilns to the Paco cubers.
On hot summer days, the Paco car’s hydraulic oil would overheat, causing erratic and sluggish operation. Bags of dry ice would be applied to the top of the hydraulic oil tank in an attempt to cool the oil.
A contractor visiting the plant noticed an LE oil drum and inquired about it, as he had never heard of the brand. Andy Olczak, the plant maintenance superintendent, informed him of the oil’s cost per gallon. The contractor expressed disbelief at the price, saying it was crazy to spend that much on oil when cheaper alternatives were available. Andy then explained how LE oil had corrected numerous problems and asked, “Now that you know the facts, which oil is cheaper to use?”
Larry Boyle, LE lubrication consultant, recommended Multilec® Industrial Oil (6804), which is multi functional, heavy-duty rust and oxidation inhibited and anti-wear oil for air compressors, hydraulics, bearings, pumps and gear applications. It has great lubricity and excellent water separation ability.
Cooled hydraulic oil: Since the conversion to Multilec 6804, the unit’s hydraulic oil was cooled by 30°F. Improved operation: Pump and oil leakage problems subsided. The Paco traveling car now operates in a much more trouble-free state.
