Peterson American Corporation is a manufacturer of coil springs and snap rings. This established company has been an LE customer for three years. Their products are distributed through the United States.
Application
Five hydraulic units are used in the manufacture of the rings. These units operate 24 hours per day.
Challenge
While using a commercial grade hydraulic lubricant, Peterson American was experiencing high temperatures and leaking hydraulic oil. The result of this was frequent repairs on the units, which are crucial to production time, and extreme oil consumption because of the leaks.

The local LE Representative recommended MULTILEC® 6802 LE’s Industrial and ZAP, Lubrication Engineers Energy Saving Program. LE’s 6802 is a truly multi-functional, heavy-duty R&O and AW industrial oil suitable for air compressors, hydraulics, bearings, industrial turbines and R&O gear applications. It is compounded with premium paraffinic base stocks for greater lubricity. LE’s 6802 can lower temperatures and give extended oil drain intervals.
Results
At the time Peterson American installed LE’s 6802, the temperatures in the hydraulic units dropped 15-20 degrees . . .132oF to 112oF (56oC to 44oC). They are now using Xamine® Analysis (Lubrication Program) to monitor the condition of the oil so they can safely extend the drain intervals.
Because LE’s 6802 is so multi-functional, they are also using it in their Ingersoll-Rand 100 hp air compressor. Amperage readings were taken on the unit before converting to LE’s 6802. After changing over to LE’s 6802, there was a 9 amp drop in electricity used.
