Dennis Harmer, seeking to reduce electrical energy costs, tested LE’s ZAP Energy Savings Program by recording the Roots blower’s performance with commercial oil and then with an oil booster additive over six weeks.
The local LE lubrication consultant advised using Monolec® R & O Compressor / Turbine Oil (6405) in the Roots blower for its enhanced oil film strength and superior rust and oxidation resistance, thanks to LE’s proprietary Monolec additive.
Switching to Monolec 6405 from commercial oil without a booster reduced energy consumption by 5.6%, saving 2,048 kWh over three weeks.
The Kenosha Water Utility, a municipal water service and water pollution control facility, has been an LE customer since June 1993.
The Roots model 12-16 positive displacement blower runs continuously. Other blowers throughout the facility run intermittently.
Dennis Harmer, plant superintendent of water resources, was looking for ways to save money on electrical energy costs. He was interested in what LE’s ZAP Energy Savings Program could do for him, so he set up his own testing. A recorder was put on the Roots blower while it was still using the commercial grade oil. Readings were taken for three weeks. A popular oil booster additive was then added to the commercial oil, and the unit was recorded another three weeks.
The local LE lubrication consultant recommended LE’s Monolec® R & O Compressor / Turbine Oil (6405) in the Roots blower. Monolec 6405 contains Monolec, LE’s proprietary liquid wear-reducing additive, which increases the oil film strength as high as four times that of commercial grade lubricants. Monolec 6405 also has superior rust and oxidation resistance.
The same recorder was used to measure amperage after the blower was thoroughly flushed and refilled with Monolec 6405.
Test results on the units were as follows:
Commercial Oil Commercial Oil w/Booster Monolec 6405 36,448 kWh
36,576 kWh
34,400 kWh
Adding an oil booster to the commercial oil did not reduce electrical consumption of the unit; instead, it caused a slight increase. Switching to Monolec 6405, however, resulted in a 5.6% energy reduction (2,048 kWh) in the three-week period, as compared to the commercial oil without booster.
