Customer Profile
The City of Burlington South WWTP is one of two wastewater plants servicing Burlington. It treats approximately 6.5 MGD, and is permitted to treat 12 MGD.
Application
The plant uses 18 Chemineer model 4HTD-7.5 mixers, 16 of which operate in the BPR tanks and two of which operate in the lime mixing tanks.
Challenge
The Chemineer mixers run 24/7 and are located outside in a moist environment. The plant management wanted a long lasting oil that would provide excellent wear protection, prevent downtime and increase equipment life.
LE Solution
The plant’s previous LE lubrication consultant recommended using Monolec® R & O Compressor / Turbine Oil (6404). When the current consultant, Jeff Boyles, took over the area, he recommended using LEAPSM Oil Analysis to monitor the oil and change it based on oil condition rather than using a time-based system. Monolec 6404 was a good choice for this application. It is an ISO 100/SAE 30 grade R & O oil that is a versatile, heavy-duty oil designed for longterm use. It is formulated to provide superior resistance to heat, oxidation and moisture, in addition to highly effective rust and oxidation inhibitors. Another plus in the formulation is Monolec, one of LE’s proprietary additives, which vastly increases film strength and acts like liquid ball bearings to allow metal surfaces to slide by one another with less friction, heat and wear.
Results
Rick Asher has been the chief operator for more than two years and has been at the plant for more than eight years. According to Rick, the Chemineer mixers have run for more than eight years with Monolec 6404 with no lubricantrelated problems. The units ran for four years the first time and were changed based on oil sample results. The units were recently sampled and will be changed again in the near future, also after four years.
