Challenge

Switching from commercial grade oil, which required frequent compressor shutdowns and costly maintenance due to heavy carbon build-up, significantly reduced downtime and labor expenses.

LE solution

Monolec® R & O Compressor / Turbine Oil (6404) is a highly recommended lubricant due to its excellent oxidation resistance, water separation, corrosion protection, longevity, nonfoaming properties, and the inclusion of the wear-reducing Monolec® additive.

Results

Switching to Monolec 6404 led to a significant decrease in discharge heat and condensation, reduced the drip rate to two drips per minute, and allowed for annual inspections.

From my past 40 years experience in this business, I know of no better lubricants than those offered by Lubrication Engineers.

Customer Profile

Bertram Yacht is a division of the Ferretti Group located in Miami, Florida. They manufacture various models of offshore deep salt water fishing vessels, as well as luxury yachts.

Application

Bertram uses a 100 HP Worthington single stage, horizontal, heavy-duty air compressor.

Challenge

Hans Kux, maintenance superintendent, said several years ago they were experiencing frequent shutdowns to remove heavy carbon build-up in their Worthington air compressor. With the previous commercial grade oil, the drip rate was four drops per minute, carbon deposits were so heavy and hard that the compressor had to be torn down at least twice a year. The valves had to be hammered out and carbon chipped from the valve assemblies. This caused many hours of downtime and labor costs.

LE Solution

Monolec® R & O Compressor / Turbine Oil (6404) was recommended by the local LE lubrication consultant. Monolec 6404 offers excellent oxidation resistance, separates readily from water and protects against corrosive wear. It is extremely long lasting and nonfoaming in service. It contains Monolec®, LE’s exclusive wear-reducing additive.

Results

After the conversion to Monolec 6404, maintenance personnel noticed that the discharge heat dropped substantially, there was a reduction in condensation, and inspections are only required once a year. The drip rate was also reduced to two drips per minute.
