The City of Auburndale is located in West Central Florida and maintains its own wastewater treatment plant.
Application
A specialty grade spray lubricant was being used on the bull gears on the clarifiers. These gears are exposed to a variety of environmental conditions and because of the nature of waste processing, they are also exposed to caustic materials.
Challenge
The specialty grade spray lubricant did not adhere to the gears as was expected. Consequently, exposure to the elements prompted the gears to rust and corrode.
LE Solution
In November of 1985, the local LE lubrication consultant recommended Pyroshield® Syn Open Gear Grease (5182). This lubricant was developed for open gears which operate in the most severe service conditions. It is an extreme pressure (EP) lubricant which is exceptionally adhesive and ideal for open gears in both mobile and stationary equipment which is used inside and outside in both summer and winter.
Results
Pyroshield 5182, once applied, adhered very well. The gears were wet and rusty, and Pyroshield 5182 impressed everyone with its ability to track around the gear and stay in place. The mechanics like it because it is easy to apply with a standard caulking gun. They feel the lubricant will extend the gear life with trouble free operation and reduce lubricant consumption because it adheres better and will last a long time. A one month relubrication cycle has now been established with Pyroshield 5182.
