Challenge

Mike Morton, Engineering Supervisor, sought a superior oil to stabilize the 1500 psi hydraulic cutter system by eliminating erratic fluctuations and leaks, which also caused significant pump temperature increases.

LE solution

Mike Morton improved hydraulic systems by initially using LE’s 4933 All Purpose Hydraulic Oil to demonstrate its quality and leak reduction, followed by LE’s 6520 MONOLEC® Hydraulic Oil at the first oil change.

Results

Eliminating erratic pressure fluctuations and leaks, the equipment now operates smoother and cooler with longer-lasting pumps, thanks to the improved oil, enhancing performance and reliability.

LE’s 6520 MONOLEC® Hydraulic Oil is also providing up to 10,000 strokes per eight-hour shift with no gumming and no detrimental effects. This is up 25% when compared to the previous commercial grade oil. This has allowed a dramatic increase in production.

Customer Profile

ITW/Reddi-Pac, Inc. has been in business for many years with locations throughout the world, including one in Monroe, Louisiana. At the Monroe location they manufacture specially laminated crate packaging, used for shipping various commercial products.

Application

Special proprietary hydraulic machines measure and cut the laminated crates to the desired length from customer’s specifications. These hydraulic cutters and measuring machines must have exacting power with no fluctuations in pressure.

Challenge

Mike Morton, Engineering Supervisor, wanted a better oil that would eliminate the erratic fluctuations (up to 300 psi on this 1500 psi hydraulic cutter system). The fluctuations were caused by the previously used commercial grade hydraulic oils. Leaks were also a common everyday problem. The pump temperature increased considerably as the fluctuations would increase.

LE Solution

Mike Morton knew there was a better way and decided hydraulic systems to LE Lubricants. The first step was to install LE’s 4933 All Purpose Hydraulic Oil in order to prove the quality of LE’s base oil and to show the ability to help reduce the leaks. The next step was to use LE’s 6520 MONOLEC® Hydraulic Oil at the first oil change interval.

Results

Within a short period of time, the erratic pressure fluctuations were eliminated, thus providing even cuts and measurements in this application. The lowered significantly, leaks were eliminated, and the equipment is running much smoother and cooler than with the previously used commercial grade oil. Pumps are lasting much longer with less erratic behavior.
