Plant Manager Roger Young sought a grease in 1984 that was easily pumpable for efficient industrial use.
LE’s 4701 MONOLEC Industrial Lubricant is designed for centralized lubrication systems, offering water and heat resistance, low separation, excellent mechanical stability, and enhanced wear reduction through its exclusive MONOLEC additive.
Alpha Sintered Metals successfully tested LE’s 4701 MONOLEC Industrial Lubricant in their Trabon system, leading to its expanded use in furnaces’ bearings and other grease-required applications.
Bearing failures have been reduced by 75% or more
Alpha Sintered Metals, Inc., a powdered metal parts manufacturer, is located near the city of Ridgway, in the northern hills of Pennsylvania, long known and widely respected as the “World Capital of Powdered Metal Manufacturing”. Established in 1971, Alpha Sintered Metals has developed into a thriving company, which operates numerous pieces of equipment. The account is serviced by LE Representative David Hayes.
Alpha Sintered Metals has 11 furnaces of various makes, including Abbot, Sinterite and Westinghouse. They also have 34 presses including Gassbarre; Stokes; Bliss and Cincinnati. These presses range in size from 5 tons to 880 tons. Alpha Sintered Metals now produces 18 million pounds of powered metal parts per year.
In 1984, Plant Manager, Roger Young was looking for a grease that could be easily pumped.
It was suggested using LE’s 4701 MONOLEC Industrial Lubricant, which is specially formulated for centralized lubrication systems and where a medium EP grease is used. This lubricant is water resistant, high heat resistant, has low separation or “bleed”, excellent mechanical stability and is easily pumpable. LE’s 4701 also contains MONOLEC, LE’s exclusive wear-reducing additive. MONOLEC® enhances intermolecular attraction in a lubricant, vastly increasing film strength and reducing friction, heat and wear.
Alpha Sintered Metals tested LE’s 4701 MONOLEC Industrial Lubricant in their Trabon automatic lubrication system. They found that LE’s 4701 performed so well that they decided to try it in other applications. They now use LE’s 4701 in the furnaces’ carrier and pillow block bearings, and for the most part, anywhere a lubrication application calls for a grease.
