Challenge

The previous lubricants failed to withstand the high pressures and rapid acceleration of motor-pump units, leading to lubricant loss, increased frictional heat, excessive wear, and premature U-joint failure.

LE solution

David Hayes recommended LE’s 3752 ALMAGARD, an NLGI 2 grease known for its metal tackiness and ability to cling to surfaces at high RPMs, for this Vari-Purpose application.

Results

Switching to LE’s 3752 lubricant has resolved a recurring issue at the DuBois Wastewater Treatment Plant, saving significant time and money, with only two U-joint failures attributed to the previous lubricant.

Very tacky and will cling to metal surfaces even at high rpms.

Customer Profile

In the fall of 1996, the WWTP of DuBois, Pennsylvania became an LE customer. This WWTP processes three million gallons of waste per day for the City of DuBois and the surrounding Township of Sandy. The plant has a maximum processing capacity of 11 million gallons per day.

Application

Plant Supervisor, Robert Shrauger was having problems with premature failure of universal joints through the entire plant.

Challenge

Many of function as connectors between electric motors and water or sewage pumps. At startup these motor-pump units exert tremendous pressures on the U-joints. The pumps can go from zero to 1750 rpms or greater almost instantly. The previous lubricants would not hold up under the stress. These lubes would sling off, the leaving a mess maintenance crew to clean, and with lack of lubrication, frictional heat would build, causing excessive wear and eventual premature failure of the U- joints.

LE Solution

LE Representative, David Hayes, recommended LE’s 3752 ALMAGARD this Vari-Purpose application. It is an NLGI 2 grease, is very to metal tacky and will cling surfaces even at high rpms.

Results

Since switching to LE’s 3752, only two U-joints have failed. Robert Shrauger, Plant Supervisor, attributes these two failures to the previous lubricant. LE’s 3752 is now being used throughout the entire plant, and Robert Shrauger has solved a repetitive problem the WWTP. The decision to use LE’s 3752 the City of DuBois has saved considerable time and money.

LE Representative David Hayes has completed a plant-wide Lubrication the DuBois Wastewater Survey Treatment Plant. This Lubrication Survey outlines all of the lubrication points throughout the plant and the correct LE product for each application.
