Challenge

Mike Sims observed that the commercial grade air compressor oil caused frequent overheating shutdowns, resulting in an estimated $15,000 per hour loss in production for the sawmill operation.

LE solution

LE’s 6802 MULTILEC Industrial Oil is a versatile, heavy-duty lubricant with premium paraffinic base stocks and MONOLEC® additive, offering excellent rust, oxidation, and wear resistance for compressors, hydraulics, bearings, turbines, and gear applications.

Results

Switching to LE’s 6802 MULTILEC Industrial Oil reduced the compressor’s electrical power consumption by $10,168.39 annually, with no unscheduled downtime since 1994 and a one-third reduction in oil cost.

LE's 6802 Multilec industrial oil saved $10,168.39 on electrical power consumption annually.

LE Solution

The local LE Representative recommended LE’s 6802 MULTILEC Industrial Oil for this compressor. LE’s 6802 is a truly multi functional, heavy-duty R&O (rust and oxidation) and AW (anti-wear) industrial oil suitable for air compressors, hydraulics, bearings, industrial turbines and R&O gear applications. It is compounded with premium paraffinic base stocks for greater lubricity. It also has outstanding rust and oxidation resistance, excellent water separation abilities and an anti-wear additive for increased gear and bearing life. LE’s 6802 is formulated to combat acid hydrolysis in rotary screw compressors. It contains MONOLEC®, LE’s exclusive wear-reducing additive.

Results

Not only was LE’s 6802 one third the price of the previous oil used, but it also provided substantial energy consumption savings. There has been no unscheduled downtime of this compressor since switching to LE’s 6802 MULTILEC Industrial Oil in 1994.

Compressor operates 60 hours per week.

Amperage average recorded prior to conversion –403 amps

Amperage average recorded after conversion to 6802 – 340 amps

The following Energy Savings Analysis formula is used to find the cost of a unit’s electrical consumption. This is the same formula used by the local utility company.

.Volts x Amperage Reduction x 1.73* = kW Savings

kW Savings x Hours of Operation Per Year = kWh Savings

kWh Savings x Electrical Charge = Energy Savings Per Year

*Conversion factor for a3-Phase Power Source

.460 x 63 x 1.73 = 50.14

50.14 x 3,120 = 156,436.80

156,436.80 x .065 = $10,168.39

LE’s 6802 Multitec Industrial Oil Saved $10,168.39 on electrical power consumption annually.
