LE helps steel and metal manufacturers succeed
Lubrication Engineers has helped steel and metal manufacturing plants worldwide maintain successful operations by overcoming the heavy demands and cost pressures of their operations. The process of metal production is hard on lubricants, with extreme temperatures, extreme loads, corrosion, abrasive particulates, caustic substances and acids all combining to create a tough environment. LE meets these challenges head-on. We have taken the concept of lubrication to a new level by recommending the right, high-performance lubricant for the application, as well as showing our customers how to protect that lubricant from the tough conditions, particularly moisture and contaminants. Our partnership with some of the best lubrication reliability partners in the industry has allowed us to bring lubrication reliability programs to the forefront of the steel and metal manufacturing industry. In doing so, we have helped our customers keep their capital-intensive assets running harder and longer, eliminating costly downtime and repairs.
The right lubricants and lubricant reliability tools – combined with training for personnel and implementation of best practice processes – will reduce overall costs. Spend a little more up front, and the savings on the backside of the operation will more than pay for the improvements. LE has several testimonials available to substantiate our claims. Find out how our enhanced lubricants and lubricant reliability program offerings have improved operational efficiency for our steel and metal manufacturing customers.
Common challenges and opportunities for improvement
Hot strip mill bearings
Grease needs to seal effectively to prevent contaminants from entering equipment. It also must survive extremes in pressure, load and temperature. LE has a wide range of industrial greases that are extremely tacky and nearly impervious to water, sealing out the contaminants and handling the extreme conditions. LE’s heavy-duty greases are known worldwide for performance and reliability, exceeding the specifications found in most conventional, off-the-shelf greases. LE greases will help hot strip mill bearings last longer. LE also offers automatic lubrication systems to make sure grease is applied in the right place at the right time in the right quantity. A reliable lubrication system can help reduce labor requirements for routine preventative maintenance.
Gearboxes, speed increasers and pump bearings
Gearboxes and oil reservoirs are commonly subject to high temperatures, heavy loads and shock loads, as well as contaminants from the working environment. All of this results in expensive premature gear wear and failure. LE’s wide range of gear, hydraulic, turbine and other industrial oils provide impressive protection against these challenging conditions. Our Duolec® and Multilec® oils, as well as our Monolec® turbine oils, have powerful anti-foaming packages and provide outstanding water separation properties that allow any water contamination to be drained away as needed. This prevents rust and corrosion in the gearbox and dramatically extends the life of the oil and the gearbox.
Oil analysis program
A routine oil analysis program is the foundation for any steel and metal manufacturing lubricant reliability program. LE’s oil analysis program – Xamine™ – enables you to be more efficient with your use of lubricants and equipment. This program monitors oil samples for mechanical, operational and environmental factors that can affect equipment and oil life. With Xamine™, you can be confident you’re testing with a company that knows your equipment. Our testing facilities are accredited, which means that your fluid analysis program is supported by a documented quality system you can depend on to deliver superior testing and customer service. With consistent, accurate monitoring of the condition of your oil – whether in an gearbox or circulating system – you can improve your bottom line with less lubricant to purchase, fewer parts to keep in inventory, less used lubricant requiring disposal, less labor and less downtime.
